Jay Cutler Being Signed Over Colin Kaepernick Is Right
Anyone who thinks the Miami Dolphins should have signed Colin Kaepernick over Jay Cutler is delusional. Let me say that again just so we are clear. Anyone who thinks the Miami Dolphins should have signed Colin Kaepernick over Jay Cutler is delusional. However, with that being said, it should be known that anyone who thinks that Colin Kaepernick remains to be unsigned right now is because of his performance and not due to his kneeling of the national anthem last year is also delusional.
Let’s start with the kneeling of the national anthem. For the last couple months on ESPN and Fox Sports, there has been a lot of debate on if Colin Kaepernick remains to be unsigned due to his performance the last two seasons or if it was because of his protest of the national anthem. Last week’s Baltimore Ravens speculation on Kaepernick proved that it is about the protest. ESPN’s Dianna Russini reported that the owner of the Baltimore Ravens, Steve Bisciotti was hesitant on the Ravens signing Kaepernick despite the general manager and the coach wanting him. So when the two most important guys in the franchise who are in charge of evaluating football talent say “Yes” and the guy who is in charge of the team’s brand and running the business side say, “May be” then it proves that Kaepernick’s baggage was clearly involved.
Whether or not somebody agrees with Colin Kaepernick’s cause, he 100% is a distraction and comes with baggage. There is no debating that. There is also no debating that every NFL owner and General Manager dislikes players that come with baggage… Well may be except for Jerry Jones and Woody Johnson.
It has also not been proven or all agreed upon that what Collin Kaepernick did last season in kneeling for the National Anthem was right and that he is the victim here. Although everyone who is in their right mind agrees that police brutality is wrong, many did not like the way Kaepernick went about it. Kaepernick kneeling during the national anthem and then wearing socks that had pigs in police uniforms were very controversial issues last year that angered a lot of Americans. There is no doubt, there are many football fans that do not want to see Kaepernick on their team and have to root for him. A CBS Boston survey showed that the top reason for the NFL television ratings dropping last season were because of the National Anthem protests before games. It is even possible that some owners may have been offended about what happened and do not want to hire an employee who they think goes about wanting change in the wrong matter. (However, I am not here today to defend all general managers and owners in the NFL… Most of them are idiots. Three of them think that Josh McCown can still play while one of them thinks Mitch Trubisky is worth giving up the #3 overall pick, two 3rd round picks, and a 4th round pick for.)
So that settles the first part of this blog in that Colin Kaepernick has yet to be signed not because of his performance but because of his National Anthem protest. However, what really needs to be talked about is how this has to do with Jay Cutler. Anyone who thinks the Miami Dolphins should have signed Colin Kaepernick over Jay Cutler is a moron. The NFL season is one month away and Colin Kaepernick has never played for Adam Gase. Jay Cutler has though and that is why he makes perfect sense for this Dolphins team. Adam Gase who is currently the Head Coach of the Miami Dolphins was once upon a time an Offensive Coordinator for the Chicago Bears. Adam Gase was Offensive Coordinator for the Bears in 2015 where Cuter had arguably the best season of his career. In 2015, Cutler threw for 3,659 yards, 21 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, and a 64.4 completion percentage. Oh yeah, and Marquess Wilson was his number 1 wide receiver for half the season that year. Sure, that Bears team won only 6 games that year but it was obvious that Cutler had a strong season thanks to Adam Gase. He brought down the turnovers from the disastrous 2014 season and played a lot of mistake free football. If he can keep the ball safe next year, there is no reason he cannot have similar success with the Dolphins. (That 2015 Bears team also got incredibly unlikely in so many games and would have made the playoffs if their idiot General Manager Ryan Pace did not trade Brandon Marshall for less than a 5th round pick.) That 2015 Bears offense was very efficient and there were some fans, who at the end of the season, wanted to fire John Fox so they could promote Gase and prevent him from leaving.

Giggity!
Cutler knows Gase’s system and has arguably played better than Kaepernick in the last two seasons as a whole. Sure Cutler has never been to a Super Bowl, unlike Kaepernick, but these players have been in way two very different of circumstances. In 2012 Kaepernick and the 49ers had one of the best defenses in the NFL and an unreal coach in Jim Harbaugh. The last eight years, Cutler has been playing for a team whose owner went to Arizona State University.
Also, if one is going to complain about Jay Cutler being in the league over Colin Kaepernick, there are a thousand better examples. The Ravens signed David Olson, an Arena Football League player who quit football to be a realtor and played in only two games in college. The Jets signed Josh McCown who has had one good season in the last 10 years, The Buccaneers signed Ryan Fitzpatrick. These guys are a thousand times worse than Cutler.
On a much more serious note, another reason why Jay Cutler is a better fit in Miami than Kaepernick is because Jay Cutler has never worn a Fidel Castro shirt to a press conference. Last year Colin Kaepernick wore a t shirt that had Malcom X and Fidel Castro on it. A reporter asked him about the shirt and why he was wearing something with Fidel Castro on it and Kaepernick responded with, “One thing that Fidel Castro did do is they have the highest literacy rate because they invest more in their education system than they do in their prison system, which we do not do here, even though we’re fully capable of doing that. That’s what mass incarceration is. That was the foundation of slavery, so our country has been based on that as well as the genocide of Native Americans.” It would be a terrible idea to put someone who said those comments and have them be in Miami. Ozzie Guillen, the former manager of the Miami Marlins, made a comment in 2012 saying he respected Fidel Castro and that ended up being a terrible situation for him. This is a huge reason why the Dolphins may have passed on Kaepernick and for some reason it has been completely ignored by the media.
The Dolphins won 10 games last year and eight of them were by a touchdown or less. They got pretty lucky in some games going their way and that might be tough for Jay Cutler to try to emulate this upcoming year. However, the Dolphins made the right choice in who they decided to lead their team this year and this is one of the best opportunities in Cutler’s entire career to make that playoff run we have been waiting for.
