Is the hype for real? Sure Facebook may be growing like crazy, adding a new member every 5 seconds, with some 350 million people suffering from “Facebook Addiction Disorder.” Consider also that the average smartphone user checks their Facebook at least 14 times a day.

But what does all this have to do with you and your business? Is Facebook having a tangible impact on the economy and small businesses like yours? Let’s take a look at some small businesses to find out how they used Facebook to absolutely kill it in their market.

In 2015, global consultancy firm Deloitte released a comprehensive study on the economic impact of Facebook. According to their findings, Facebook enabled 277 billion dollars of economic activity activity which resulted in 4.5 billion jobs worldwide in 2014. That is one heck of a gravy train!

Further, it was reported that 50% of all businesses who started advertising on Facebook had to hire new employees as a result. This may be in part because each user has on average 229 friends who all spend an average of 6.5 hours a week on Facebook. Most of those are local people, and 92% of all consumers will trust the word of a friend or family member when making a purchase.

This means that one like or an endorsement on a social media site will dramatically impact your future sales because it moves consumers through the “know, like, and trust” qualifier at unprecedented speeds for up to an average of 229 people who actually know this person.

For example Swedish diaper pad manufacturer Tena took the market by storm almost entirely through Facebook advertising. Going from zero to 14,000 U.S. likes in just a few months in a market that would seemingly have very little social appeal. This helped Tena to almost double their market share to 4.4% in less than 2 years.

Budding on this Facebook success, Tena men was launched in the U.K. Facebook once again delivered and the brand got its name in front of 4 million men which generated 150,000 clicks to their website and of the 25,000 men who actually requested a free sample, 92% went on to make an actual purchase. They only made 3 ads.

Or consider the story of Bakin Babes, a small desert catering and bakery retail store in Tampa, Florida. Julie’s challenge was in hiring. She was doing all the baking and marketing and got very disappointing results when using a pacement agency. Instead she spent 15 minutes on a Facebook ad and had 18 applications in 48 hours. Now it only takes her a week to hire a new employee and 8 of the 9 staff members on her team were hired through Facebook.

Paul Romando generated $163,969.49 of Revenue from only $5,989.09 of Facebook Ad Spend in 34 days. His formula is simple. Rather than a simple “buy my stuff” or ad that leads directly to a sale, Paul instead uses ads to drive people to valuable content. He then re-targets that same audience with a free “how to” article before he asks for the sale amongst those who downloaded the 2nd article. This sent his conversion rate soaring and accounts for his 300% profit margin.

Consider Maggiano’s restaurant chain of Chicago, their 2 week ad campaign saw a 6x return on ad spend with 20,000 additional actual visits. Or the Lewis Center Botanical Gardens of Richmond, Va which reached 20,000 people and ended up sell 27% of all their tickets to a fundraiser from Facebook. Or the Amazing Lash Beauty Salon of Peoria, Illinois, which got 1,452 leads before its grand opening which translated into 852 service transactions in the first month. Lexus of Santa Monica ran a 3 week campaign in October of 2018 which caused a 3x lower cost per vehicle detail click and 3 times as much traffic and clicks overall.

It seems that businesses everywhere are taking advantage of the incredible power and reach of Facebook advertising.

Founded in 2008, 2U partners with graduate schools to provide online education. Their Facebook advertising campaign was directly responsible for a 2.2x increase in potential student volume and a 52% reduction in cost per prospective student. The Terra Blue Lavender Farm outside of Toronto Canada saw a 2x increase in visits and a 3x increase in sales as a result of Facebook Advertising.
