I am learning disabled (but good at math) and went to a special school that my mom founded. Since many of the kids had problems with math, we used Stern blocks (sort of like Cuisinaire rods) and were lucky enough to have Peggy Stern teach us how to use them. I remember figuring out how to multiply with them. Unfortunately, I forget how I did it. (I was about 6 or 7).

Somewhat later, I remember getting interested in Fibonacci numbers. I found out that you could start with any two numbers and the ratios of subsequent terms would very quickly converge. I found this exciting, but then found out it was already well known.
