If you look at “pride” and “parade” events for various ethnic groups, you see people acting in ways that are exaggerated versions of how they ordinarily act. I mean, at, say, a Scottish parade, you will see a lot of kilts and hear a lot of bagpipes. and be offered haggis Most Scots don’t ordinarily walk in kilts, are more likely to listen to music other than bagpipes and eat hamburgers rather than haggis.

A parade is a time to celebrate difference.
