This is fascism

A well-reasoned article, as always. One quibble though, you say: “It is their sensation of being under assault, of the ebbing away of their technocratic, judicial, evidence-based authority over society following the decidedly political jolts of Brexit and Trump, that has led them to resuscitate the fascism frenzy.”

The odd man out there is “evidence-based”, as your article clearly demonstrates. Rather, the problem is that the thought of these elites is almost purely theory-based.

For example, it’s theory that colours a comment that’s not actually racist in any way as secretly a racist “dog whistle”; it’s theory that equates words with violence, and elevates mere poetic metaphor into a justification for the initiation of violence.
