Henri Marie Raymond de Toulouse-Lautrec Monfa @ MOMA

The MOMA-exhibition attempts to show the influence of the Parisian cabaret-scène in on the graphic production of bohemian artist Toulouse-Lautrec. Lautrec’s very well known examples of Moulin Rouge Cancan dancers are alternated with striking examples of the artist’s ability to stylize and capture the individuality of his subjects. His litograph’s of performers Jane Avril and Loïe Fuller figure as the epitome of his draughtsmanship, characterized by their simplicity. Despite some of the amazing pieces, the exhibition is lacking real depth, while the scenography was overly traditional with a couple of multimedia accents.
