What is the COP and SCOP value?

COP (Coefficient of Performance) is an indicator of the efficiency of a heat pump. Take the following example; A heat pump that delivers 4000 watts and draws 1,000 watts from the power supply has a COP of 4, which is calculated as follows: 4000/1000 = 4

This means that the higher the COP factor is given for a heat pump, the better. That is precisely why producers give the maximum COP of the product.

COP-value is quite interesting for you to know about, because it tells you how much you really expect to get out of your heat pump. Furthermore, it is also nice to know about if it really can pay off for you to install a heat pump.

When choosing a heat pump, it’s about finding the one that gives the most heat compared to the amount of power the pump uses.

The greater efficiency of the heat pump, the cheaper power bill you get! So when you buy a new heat pump, you need to keep an eye on efficiency and go for the heat pump that has the highest efficiency in the listings.

COP-figure applies only to a particular outdoor and flow temperature. Most often, the figure is measured by the outdoor temperature, where the pump has the highest efficiency. It will usually be a relatively high temperature compared to the most common outdoor temperatures during the winter months where there is the greatest need for heat pump.

SCOP

SCOP (Seasonal Coefficient of Performance) is a new average measurement that shows how effective the heat pump is on an annual basis.

This gives you a realistic picture that makes it much easier to compare heat pumps across producers (and models from the same manufacturer).

It gives a more accurate picture of the efficiency, than with the COP value. Therefore, you can better use the SCOP figure to compare the different heat pumps efficiency directly with each other. So with SCOP value you can better determine which pump is the most effective.
