Today I decided to watch 10 videos of my Graphic designing course. Every time I started this course, there was always some interruption and my course was always left in the middle.

I decided to overcome my procrastination with the Pomodoro Technique. Are you familiar with this technique? If not, you will be. So let’s start the process.

I picked up my laptop and selected a separate room. I told my family not to see anyone around me for 2 hours. And set a timer of 25 minutes. Worked hard for the first 25 minutes.

My hands kept getting itchy as I am used to playing with a chick these days. Most of the time that chick stays in my hands. Last time I was attending a zoom meeting and had that chick in my hands. Because of this, instead of fully focusing on the meeting, I kept turning the chick’s key. Now I restrained myself from catching it because if I caught the chick, my work would be left in the middle again.

After 25 minutes my alarm rang. And I took a five-minute break. During that break, I came back to my chick, grabbed it and gave it the key, and the itch on my hand subsided.

My toy chick, a source of distraction

After a 5 minute break I made my first star on paper. I came back to my laptop and continued my course.

For the next 25 minutes there was no any disturbance and I continued my work. At break time I took a short tour of the house and made a star on the paper.

I resumed the course after the break. At this time I started to feel sleepy. But the alarm didn’t ring yet and I couldn’t sleep so I continued my work. When the alarm rang after 25 minutes, I made another star on the paper and then I went to wash my face to chase away the sleep. Obviously, I couldn’t sleep because I had to complete my task. Again set the alarm and started working.

There was no disturbance for the next 10 minutes, but then my lovely niece came into my room rolling her walker. I love to play with her and she also comes wherever she sees me. But I told myself that there are 15 minutes left, till the alarm rings. I called her mother and said that Mirha should be taken from here. I completed the rest of my work.

My niece Mirha, always attracts me

After 25 minutes the alarm rang and I made the 4tht star on paper. After completing 4 steps I took a long break. I played with my nephew Mirha as she was weeping. After a long break I resumed my work and in the end I completed my target of watching 12 videos of my course.

Do you remember when we were kids and teachers used to make stars on our faces as a sign of appreciation? Similarly, when I drew stars on the paper after every 25 minutes, I felt like I was congratulating myself after completing a task.

Stars for self appreciation

So that was the The Pomodoro Technique. let’s review it….

  • Identify a task that you need to complete.
  • Set a timer for 25 minutes.
  • Work on a task with no distractions.
  • When the alarm sounds, take a 5-minute break.
  • Repeat the process 3 more times.
  • Take a longer 30-minute break and start again. Until your task is completed.
Pomodoro, A magical technique

You will definitely like this technique. By applying it, you can complete your tasks without any distractions. So Don’t forget to apply this magical technique.
