Instagram versus Facebook (or how I learned that we needed another form of login)
So today, Ashlee Reynolds and I were very lucky to be hosted at the Boys and Girls Club of the Peninsula by the fabulous Desiree Caliguiran. Special thanks to Sean Mendy and Peter Fortenbaugh for continuing to help me understand what it really takes to make a difference in this world.
Our mission was to meet some of the amazing students and figure out whether AngelScholars was going to be useful and/or interesting to them.
Would they sign up? Would they like it?
Was it going to help them? Would they use it to apply for Scholarships? Would they keep the profiles up to date, and create campaigns?
It was an open-ended session where we were figuring out what worked and what didn’t.
And then we hit a wall… the “umm, we don’t have Facebook accounts wall”…

Q: “Why don’t you use Facebook?”
A: “Facebook got weird when our parents joined, so we moved to Instagram. We hope they don’t join that. We’ve deleted our Facebook accounts.”
And just like that our “Login with Facebook” strategy was, well, hosed.
Fortunately, we have some awesome engineers, and we’ll launch an Instagram login in a few days, and then, yes, even a LinkedIn one for Angels that don’t do Facebook. (Charles, I’m looking at you for the GOJF please).
