I would agree with your point of “it has no idea who the Mac is for” if Apple didn’t spend large portion of the presentation after the introduction of the new MacBook Pro showing software and use cases for what the Mac was for and spent about 1% of the presentation talking about the 25 years leading up to it.

Maybe it just didn’t fit with what your expectation of what the Mac is/was for.
