A History of Women — An Essay by Brenda Ueland from 1971

Ginger this is truly awesome. There is so much in this essay that is such beautiful Truth. I can not thank you enough for sharing this. Gender equality is my passion — it’s abhorrent to treat women the way we do, it’s critical to our survival — and more importantly, for the survival of other life forms on this wonderful planet. We humans are at the dreadful peak of a male money/power fest, we have to change things, very quickly.

I’ve been saying the same thing as this essay for years. As a real man, it’s not easy speaking out, (not saying it is for women!) but as a bloke, you are seriously in danger of having your head kicked in if you discuss this in a pub. It’s an isolating existence so to read this essay is music to my ears, fresh air that lets me know there are others out there who see the Truth.

We, the common people of our world, women and men, need to actually do something about it now. We have no time to argue, we need to combine and make changes. Gender equality is now a critical issue, it’s the most important issue in the world. We can tackle climate change, oppression, war, famine, you name it — in the best possible way — if we completely engage the wisdom of women. We should all focus on this before it’s too late. I’m trying to make it happen but need to connect with other people who actually want ‘to do something’ about it.

I do have to say that i would like to make it illegal somehow ;) for people to use the term ‘men’ on its own in such articles… It needs to be ‘some men’ or ‘most men’ (to be more accurate at this time anyway). But just ‘men’ is, as you might expect, is quite upsetting for ‘men like me’ who do not have equality issues, or who are actually actively doing something about it!

Sending total respect to you and all women.

I love that quote; “If we can be true equals, we will be better friends, better lovers, better wives and husbands.”

Indeed… Let’s do it.
