Widebeam boat, built by Floating Ohm in Cowes harbour © Phil Pickin

For those not conversant with the world of sailing Cowes, on the Isle of Wight, is often regarded as the home of sailing in the UK. Other locations would probably dispute this but whatever your opinion of it’s status in the sailing world, you don’t expect to find a boat built for the waterways to be moored in the town.

This wide beam boat will soon be on its way to Bristol to begin its new life as a home, but I recently caught up with it on the Isle of Wight to see the boat and to speak to those who designed a built it.

A trip to Bristol is on the cards to see it in all its glory in its new home. As you might expect it will also be the subject of a feature in a forthcoming issue of Towpath Talk.
