Our reliance on the internet demands that our online experience is fast and efficient, anything less is just frustrating. So there is value in knowing how internet speed can affect online experience?

What is Internet Speed?

Our starting point is to define Internet Speed as the transmission rate of data from one location to another across the internet.

This is more commonly referred to as download speed and it is measured in megabits per second (Mbps). The measurement refers to the transmission rate of data from a point of origin, typically a server, to the target (location) device, such as a smartphone, tablet or laptop.

Among the many network metrics available, understanding the part played by upload speed and latency is also important.

Upload speed is the reverse of download speed. Specifically, the transmission rate of data from a target device (smartphone etc) to the origin (server), It is also measured in Mbps. Upload speed is set by the ISP’s who are managing the connections across internet.

Latency, also known as RTT (Round Trip Time), is the sum of the time taken for a request from a target device to traverse…
