We try to recover abandoned shopping carts but why not abandoned donations?

At Philantro, we ask ourselves questions like this everyday. We have roots in nonprofits as well as
e-commerce; naturally we find correlations in both.

I remember reading an article a few years back about re-engaging potential customers who have abandoned their shopping cart.

For those not familiar

You visit a website and add things to your shopping cart. You get close to completing the purchase and then suddenly you change your mind and leave the website without completing the purchase.

This is a method of convincing you to complete the purchase. It saves your shopping cart contents and sends you an email a few days later saying..

“Hi John Smith, there’s items left in your shopping cart. Here’s 10% off, click this link to continue your purchase.”

SOMETHING like that.

With Nonprofits and Donations

So with Donations, you’re not going to give 10% off hahaha, but the approach is still true! Donors don’t complete donations for all sorts of reasons but if you have enough data to contact them, you could send a short email saying…

“Hi Jane Smith, did you have any questions we could help answer? Your $10 donations could help us purchase 10 books for our summer reading programme. Click here to continue your donation.”

SOMETHING like that.

This does three things

  1. It shows you’re actively engaging not only those that support you but anyone willing to take a step in that direction.
  2. It’s a method of recuperating resources with no investment needed.
  3. Responses to this “Re-engagement Email” can help you build a better website, show you what information is missing and help you find weak points in your campaigns.

Philantro allows you to track donations in

real-time AND pick up on donation forms where you left off.

So what’s the big idea?

Simple. Philantro enables nonprofits to see actions taken on the donation form in realtime and captures relevant information in cases of abandoned donations.

In addition to this great feat, Philantro also provides a unique link for every abandoned donation that allows the donor to pick up where they left off securely. Philantro’s donation form is streamlined but we don’t want any potential donor to have to go through the process again if we can help it.

We’re serious about empowering nonprofits. Try it — warning, don’t be pushy in your emails. Place yourself in the potential donor’s shoes and we’re sure you’ll see great results.
