Of course true believers will always think there was something, regardless of when the Mueller inquiry gets wrapped up and for what reason. Even if Mueller admits, after handing out various indictments for “perjury”, past tax avoidance, etc etc that he found nothing of “collusion”, true believers will allege that Mueller “threw” the case.
On the other hand, Trump supporters will always believe, in the event that someone “dishes dirt” as part of a plea bargain unrelated to “collusion”, that that “witness” was forced into perjury.
Democrats should, but are incapable of doing so, think for a moment about the possibility of a “special prosecutor” who is a mirror image of Mueller, being unleashed on the Clintons, on a pretext similar to the “PeePee Dossier”.
Manafort, Gates, Papadopoulos, et al, are saints compared to the Clinton mob. But every Clintonite sent up for past malfeasances unrelated to the actual enquiry, would be regarded by Democrat supporters as what? Victims of the latest McCarthy-ist witch-hunt, I wager.
It is quite possible that someone on the Republican side is playing a long strategic game, even if it is not Trump himself. Trump is a deeply flawed candidate and President who has brought out the worst in the Democrats. Now look at the precedents that have been established, that may well be used by Republicans against Democrats, and not stopping at just the Clintons. Scott Adams has written a plausible theory of “Mutually Assured Destruction” — the tactics that have been used against Team Trump will, on the basis of precedent, be used by the Republican Administration (whether Trump, Pence, or someone else one day) to take down Democrats en mass.
Democrats and their stooges seem to be incapable of understanding just how obvious, stark and glaring their partisanship, bias and bad faith is already — you wait until exactly the same “special prosecutions” are being used against their political idols. Most Americans will just roll their eyes in response to the Democrats wailing and screaming. They are already rolling their eyes about prominent Democrats getting away with bleaching computer hard-drives to thwart investigators — imagine how Mueller would treat a Republican who did the same? Scott Adams point, I think, is good — the Democrats don’t see the “Mutually Assured Destruction” that possibly awaits.
Trump’s bark has been worse than his bite — he talked on the campaign trail about Hillary going to jail but there has been no “special prosecutor” appointed — YET. Ironically, if he was a fraction as bad as the Democrats were making him out to be (“Hitler”, etc) there would be dozens of Democrats in jail already, or at least in a far more tenuous position than Manafort is now. It is not as if the Democrats are saints. Trump is a mixture of characteristics, including bad ones that he got a free pass on when he was assumed to be a typical Celebrity New York Liberal Clinton Donor. The way the Democrats are attacking him now, is riddled with bad faith. If it proves to be a winning game plan for them in the mid-terms, I will be surprised.
