The Scooter Libby case was a close parallel to the current one. Trump was right to pardon him. His “perjury”, found by a jury, was based on his word against someone else’s. This is a disgraceful, unjust basis on which to find anyone guilty, contrary to everything in Judeo-Christian ethics and probably all other systems of ethics that are worth anything. That jury delivered a blight on the history of western civilization.

There are definite advantages to the way the USA does some things, but there is no way that a judgement like that could have stood in the UK or any British Commonwealth country, and probably many other countries.

Libby claimed that the journalist interviewing him, told him as if it was common knowledge, that Valerie Plame was a government Agent. Richard Armitage, a Democrat holdover, freely admitted to having told the journalist the day before. The journalist (a partisan hack) claimed that Libby told him. if there was any prima facie case for perjury, it was against the journalist.

Not only was Libby’s conviction a disgrace, the spin that has been put on it ever since by the entire Left (including the MSM), is flagrant bad faith. It proved nothing about the Bush Administration and the case for war against Iraq, just as perjury traps and tax evasions prove nothing about Team Trump “collusion with Putin”. The Democrats constantly assume complete imbecility (or worse, acquiescence to brainwashing) on the part of their audience, if they expect their claims to be taken sincerely. If their audience doesn’t take them sincerely, then the audience is “deplorable”! Way to win friends and influence people!
