How often have I heard a couple discussing a person or a proposed venture and one (usually the wife if this is heterosexual relationship) says that they don’t have a good feeling about it, and the other person ‘being rational’ dismisses their feelings as having no account. Usually, the one with the feeling is correct, even if they are unable to articulate their feelings in a rational way.
I always say to people that they should learn to trust their instincts. If they turn out to be wrong than go back and separate what was their real feelings and what was prejudice or simply their upbringing.
Instincts, or intuition, has to be learnt. It’s a process like any other but in general we learn by going with them and looking at the results. Which, when you think about it, is how we learn anything.
