Weekend impressions from Hội An, Đà Nẵng and Huế
Hội An, Đà Nẵng and Huế are three cities located close to each other in central Vietnam.
Hội An as UNESCO world heritage since 1999 with its historic old town district is recognized as an exceptionally well-preserved example of a Southeast Asian trading port dating from the 15th to the 19th century. Its buildings and street plan reflect a blend of indigenous and foreign influences.
Đà Nẵng is the fifth-largest city in Vietnam and is one of Vietnam’s most important port cities located at the mouth of the Hàn River. Da Nang is the commercial and educational centre of Central Vietnam and is the largest city in the region.
Huế was the capital of Vietnam during the Nguyễn dynasty from 1802 to 1945. The city served as the old Imperial City and as the administrative capital during the French Indochina period. As UNESCO-designated site it contains major historic monuments like the Imperial City of Huế, with palaces and shrines; the Forbidden Purple City, once the emperor’s home; and a replica of the Royal Theater.
