We see modern complexity as convenience, improvemenmt, danger, whatever; it seems that we must have more regulation over more products and situations than ever, which will not please the more fanatical speakers for “freedom” or “liberty.” Individuals desire personal freedom, but modern life is crowded, deferred, product and service orientated, specialised; none of us controls much personal freedom, if ever we did. Surely nobody wants to be threatened by others in carelessness or exploitation? Vigilance, awareness, strong response, legislation, all remain essential, for our health, our lives.
