Pair programming is indispensable when used properly. — it should not be a full time thing, but when used to cross train, or focus on complex strategies, having someone as a second set of eyes and brain is extremely helpful and efficient… we do it sporadically on screen share, and the benefits far outweigh the drawbacks.
