Facebook announced today that during the 2018 Hour of Code Week, they will be sponsoring a Zeptosecond of Ethics. Each participant in Hour of Code will be challenged to engage in a zeptosecond of ethical behavior — and then to reflect upon that zeptosecond. A Facebook spokesperson explained: “We want young coders to develop skill flexing their ethical muscles, so to speak, which is why Facebook is sponsoring a Zeptosecond of Ethics. Our commitment to ethical behavior in the technology space is fully reflected in a Zeptosecond of Ethics.” After engaging in a Zeptosecond of Ethics, students will be encouraged to reflect upon their experience by writing a journal entry. Students who write the best journal entries will be invited to not visit Facebook to not receive an “Ethical Leadership in Technology Certificate” not personally signed by Mark Zuckerberg.

Reaction on Wall Street was mixed.
