Great article. I’m in the same business, as a publisher. A major manufacturer that is the leading company in its space recently confided to me “We’ve never really turned a profit on all our efforts in China.” So, though some companies have to outsource to China to be competitive, it’s not always a rosy situation.

Also, it’s not all bad. Two billion people in India, China, Eastern Europe, and other places have joined the developed world in the past three decades, partly due to outsourcing or supply relationships with rich companies in rich countries like the US. That is a good thing. But we must demand that workers globally have the power to demand better conditions and keep their children in school, not in factories.
