I agree with your perspective. Our presupposition of love is very romantic but it rarely lives up to our expectations. Eventually the wheels come off. Love is not what I can get out of another person, but is what I can do for my beloved. It is not self-serving but rather self-sacrificing. It is not proud. Marriage, as some view it, is not a contract but a commitment; a covenant, if you will. It is saying that I am committed to you for better and worse. Often times people are only in it for the better.
