The best motorbike rides outside London -Easter Weekender.
Spring is here! I know because today was the first morning I ran to the garage, put away the winter ride and took out my cafe racer to blast into work. Bliss.
We have a whole summer of riding ahead of us. Sunny days, leaning corners, meet-ups, ride-outs, adventures!
In order to celebrate and get the most out of the early season, the Phuel team have clubbed together our favourite rides for your inspiring pleasure. We are borrowing the fantastic BMW R100 listed on the Phuel site (because that’s what we do… make it easy to borrow bikes off fellow riders) and are hitting the roads.
Going out west
Ryka’s Cafe (Post code: RH5 6BY) is a great place to start for a ride out West. This weekend you can expect to find up to 500 bikes parked outside the cafe so it’s a great place to meet, learn and stare at some incredible machines. The riding up Box Hill and then around the Surrey hills is fantastic. The A246 from Box Hill over towards Guildford is a nice sweeper but turn off before Guildford over to Albury, Godalming and Haslemere.
When you get to Haslemere you are in the South Downs and the Haslemere Petworth, Petersfield loop is absolutely lovely.
You can’t really go wrong!
South and South East
There are some fantastic routes stretching out from Tonbridge Wells. The A21 down to Hastings is a lovely looping ride. If you want to go further east, try the A28 — its a beautiful stretch of road for motorcyclists and a great couple of pub spots on the way: The Bull Inn stands out as being exceptional (Post code: TN26 3LB)
The London Motorcycle Riders Club is also having a fantastic ride out this Sunday morning! There is a meeting point somewhere near Croydon and it guarantees to be a great ride but you have to be part of the club and qualified for the Cornerman Sytem — check it out at http://www.meetup.com/London-Motorcycle-Riders-Club/events/228634148/ or follow them on Facebook to find out more.
North and East
There are so many great places to list north of London but a really fun thing to do is Green Laning if you have the gear. Check out the options near you here: http://www.trf.org.uk/
If you are more of a road goer, you can do a lot worse than the A120 going out to the seaside at Manningtree. Got a bit more time? Then head up towards Bury St Edmonds to the Krazy Horse Cafe open till 3pm — It is a bikers paradise.
Most importantly, just get out and go on an adventure — there are loads of fantastic resources to help you plan your ride here:
