The Germany is not racist free, but also they did not erect statues like we did after the war. Why is that? I believe Germany has taken the issue of racism far more seriously, and really educate themselves about it, because of their dreadful history. Our history is similarly dreadful, but before recent events, some were talking about a post-racial society. Now we see how premature that was. If you really want to reduce racism and authoritarianism, because the two walk hand and hand, it is something that requires serious thought. The argument is for education that promotes conversation and self reflection. The statues identify a subtle form of propaganda and could be used to help to future generations to identify this trick and show that it does happen in this country, and will continue if we don’t identify it.
