Photography of the Intense Gaze

Berlin-based Japanese artist Rika Noguchi creates lyrical photographic works born from a deep observation of her surroundings.

Noguchi’s solo exhibition at Canon Gallery S runs until February 8th. Entitled “To The Night Planet” the exhibition features 30 works as well as a video work of the city of Berlin at night. Noguchi captures glimpses of street lights, car lights, and light seeping out through buildings. The images, captured while on a moving bus is enveloped by a hazy light which exudes a kind of intimacy.

Noguchi’s works are telling of the psychological distance she chose to developed with her subject matter. Looking at her work almost feels like one is seeing the world through her very eyes.
