SUCCESS CAN DEVOUR YOU!
I repeat SUCCESS CAN DEVOUR YOU!
What’s good with my creative entrepreneurs out there? We all know how it is to struggle and the pitfalls involved. the other side of that coin is the self-destruction that can come from success. Which led me to ask myself these questions.
Are you prepared for success?
Will you let up once you start seeing real progress?
Not being productive enough with your craft and the money factor behind it will leave you in the dark and always behind.
If you aren’t able to spot the gaps in the game how can you fill it with what makes you unique?
Many of us have hopes, dreams, and goals that focus on reaching a certain level in your craft.
Let me share a short story about someone very close to me who offered some insight into how he has had to conquer the amount of work he has now.
My good friend also from Buffalo, NY is a rising talent in the world of rap music.
(I will not say his name because I would not want someone using my name as a come up.)
He has been making music for roughly ten years and is now at a level where his verses are in crazy high demand across the high levels of the industry with established artists.
One night we were in the home studio of his producer, he shared this very quote with me.
“I ‘m damn near all out of raps my G.”
Some clients already paid for verses and everything so he owed!! He knocked it all out because he is a high-level artist with a work ethic that allowed him to write even more!
The stress is real, but he prepared for it.
You Mr. or Ms. I write when the vibe is right, and I am feeling it are severely unprepared for success.
SERIOUSLY!
You do not have that luxury right now. Honestly, as long as you have been making music, you haven’t put together at least 100–200 songs or verses or compositions to reference?
You may need to reevaluate what you want to do with your life. Success is work!! The work is everything.
Preparation is the secret to the most successful people, and that comes from consistent work proven over time. Here are a few questions to ask yourself before you make your next move
Releasing a Single or Project?
- How will you promote before during and after releasing?
- Who will do your promoting and marketing?
- Where and who are your fans?
Do You want to book shows?
- Where is your press kit?
- Who are you going to contact at each club/school/venue?
- Do you have performance tracks?
You want to get your music featured in television, movies, and games?
- How do you contact music supervisors?
These are just examples of how you should approach your music business.
Tips to prepare
- Write at least 2 songs a day
- Read something that pertains to your exact goals in the industry
- Use social media to network and connect with industry impact players who interact with indie artists frequently. Twitter can be a perfect resource for artists and producers.
