The Sales Man’s Journey Through The Fear Of The Phone — Part 1

I am lucky to do what I love.

Everyday, I go out there in the hope that one day I will have mastered my craft enough…

Enough to be of value to someone else and create an exchange.

Because after all, you’re relevant only to the level you can exchange.

But it has not always been that way…

I started my “career” in Sales, when I arrived in Toronto. What it means really is that I was cold calling

What I wanted was to be successful on my own. I wanted the whole entrepreneur life thing.

You know, live on my own terms, make 5 figures a month… Easy peasy lemon squeezy

The struggle was real. I was freshly arrived from France (accent and english not on point), had 0 experience (let’s be serious, a diploma doesn’t give you **** ) and was absolutely terrified of the phone…

Not a good start you might think. Correct.

What was really the worst to me was that for some reason, I was expecting myself to already be great at business...

I guess I thought because I was born in a family of entrepreneurs, I should have it in my blood…??

Well it was absolutely not the case…

I was confused and terrified that after all, I might not actually be built for that entrepreneurship game…

See, the problem was that my fear was getting in the way of my “success”.

When it came to sales, I was doing everything possible to avoid picking up the phone...

I was keeping myself busy “building a list”, working on “researching the companies” and sending tons crap of emails… You get it.

It was only a matter of time before I would get noticed…

I really didn’t want to lose my position… and my visa.

I had to find a solution, I couldn’t imagine I got that far and would fail now…

After all of what I went through to get here… (check my previous post if you don’t know what I’m referring to)

It is at that moment that I decided I had go through that fear of the phone.

That day, I have hit Youtube like never in my life.

Video after video, looking for some content that would relieve my gut pain from this fear…

BUT THEN IT HAPPENED…

Like an idea in the middle of a boring conversation… it hit me!

It was ONE sentence that CHANGED MY LIFE

I barely slept that night…

That was almost 3 years ago…

Anyway.

You can only connect the dots looking backwards, like SJ would say…

I’m glad I hated that phone.
