Yes, Whitehead was a great philosopher, while I am more focused on the ancient stoics and the Renaissance writers like Richard Burton (‘The Anatomy of Melancholy’), and Paracelsus. They were defining themselves more or less as healers but through the experience of witnessing suffering, they became great and compassionate philosophers.
