UX - more than the sum of its parts -Justinmind and atomic design

In this article from d the wire framing/prototyping tool that just seems to be getting better and better (see what I did there:) discusses Atomic Design principles and what it means for design and users. Initially developed by Brad Frost it’s about designing systems, these systems need to work for practitioners and users and so they do.

It’s about components their consistency, micro interactions, IDX, patterns and visual language across a brand, product or service touch points.

If you have not come across this notion before dive in and have a read it’s really very interesting and has become rather pervasive in the design and development world, even if many don’t understand the many origins we can see and use it’s utility.

“Atomic design gives us the ability to traverse from abstract to concrete. Because of this, we can create systems that promote consistency and scalability while simultaneously showing things in their final context. And by assembling rather than deconstructing, we’re crafting a system right out of the gate instead of cherry picking patterns after the fact.”
