My father and I had a conversation about this yesterday. We were discussing how, in previous years, you didn’t know anything about people except those with whom you interacted or heard about. Now, though, you’re sitting at a desk working and you see someone posting pictures from vacation and get jealous — ignoring the fact that, not that long ago, you were posting photos and they were probably getting jealous. Most people only put their best foot — and face — forward online, so you’re often only seeing what they want to present to the world. They want to be envied and so it’s easy to envy. That can fuck with anyone if you let it. I’ve certainly had it happen to me many times.
