The Economist — The future of computing: summary

While Moore’s law is no yet rendered useless, progress in the hardware dpt seems to be slowing down: “number-crunching power” now only doubles every 2.5 years (according to an Intel spokesman) compared to the 2 years or less in the past.

The main changes we’ll see in the computing industry of the future will be situated in 3 key areas, including:
* Software (= AI & better algorithms)
* Cloud computing
* Specialised chips (each optimized for a different task: cloud-computing, Quantum computing, neural network processing & computer vision, etc.)
