How to Test the Twin Paradox Without Using Space
Forget anti-aging creams and hair care.
If you want to stay young, get a fast ship. It is what Einstein’s theory of relativity predicted a hundred years ago, it is often called the “twin paradox.”
Imagine two twins. They are the same except for one thing, one of them has a high-end and expensive plane. The first twin stays on Earth, while the other goes to distant stars and returns at speeds close to the speed of light. When they meet again, the earth twin is older than the travel twin. It’s because of what Einstein called time dilation. He predicted that clocks with different speeds measure different times. As confusing as it may seem, the effect of this time spread has been tested in the laboratory many times and is always picked up by the Global Positioning System (GPS).
GPS can give you your position by adjusting the time of the signal that the satellite emits, for this, it will take into account the time change due to the increase in the number of different satellites. Although GPS is one of the best systems we have, it can locate your phone with an error margin of a few meters.
Precision can be improved using the most accurate clocks we know in the world, called quantum clocks because they are governed by the laws of quantum mechanics. There are plans by…
