Yes, in transportation Jevons Paradox of Efficiency, also known as Rebound Effect can be seen in Lewis-Morgridge Law or Downs-Thomson Paradox. Examples of ‘eco-friendly’ cars show that users use them more frequently, thus less eco-friendly. Widening of car lane could be more safe if drivers use the same speed as before — but they speed up causing more accidents and fatalities. Adding new lines to the street suppose to relax congestion but it invites new drivers, thus making things worse — especially on not ‘modernized’ [sic!]streets yet. Adding street lights suppose to make traffic more safe by separation of different flows of drivers, bikers and pedestrians, but people stop thinking about each other potential behaviors causing dramatic accidents with more fatal consequences!
Thus I focused in my research on potential negative side effects of mobility automation diffusion. We should adopt AVs as fast as possible but with their social and economic benefits only, including spatial development of cities, suburban and rural areas!
