It’s unfortunate to say that abusive relationships are sometimes unnoticed. Often times, someone is afraid to seek help when they are in an abusive relationship for fear of how their actions may trigger their partner. Sometimes, the victim is unaware of the abuse and is taught that they deserve the pain and abuse because of their faults, or even because that is what they think love is. Battered-wife syndrome falls somewhere between these categories. The victim will take the abuse because everything is perfect when things are good, and they punish themselves when things are bad and strive to make it good again.

Raising awareness for abusive relationships comes in many forms. Informational programs, help centers, call lines, and promoting healthy relationships are all ways to raise awareness. Educating the public about signs of healthy and unhealthy relationships is crucial. A person can’t make a judgement about their relationship if they are unaware of what the various kinds of relationships look like.
