Individualization Principle: Why You Should Individualize Everything
Create a workout routine and regimen for YOU.
Create a vision and future for YOU.
When it comes to training athletes, there are 7 principles that the coach or trainer or individual must consider. An application of these principles can help you maximize your training potential. Furthermore, we can apply principles to all aspects of life so an understanding of how these “laws” work can help us be successful in all areas of life.
The sixth principle of training is the individualization principle
Definition: All people are different and need different training. Body type, age, training status, injury, goals, genetics, and gender determine how our body responds to various demands.
No two bodies are alike.
The individualization principle means that what works to enhance Bryan’s body might not work to enhance Susan’s body. Bryan might only lift two times per week and run six days per week because his goal is to run a marathon. Susan lifts four times per week and bikes two times per week because running irritates the foot that she had surgery on four years ago. Consider all variables when creating an exercise program. What works for Micheal Phelps will not work for the average person who swims to stay healthy. Be wary of copying the workouts of people simply because they see success as a result of their training program does not mean you will see success.
Exercise should be prescribed based on the individual.
The individualization principle applies to other aspects of life as well.
Most of us are handed a script: high school, college or trade school or manual labor, career job, life partner, buy a home together, work, maybe have kids, work, retire, and wait to die.
People must understand that the script handed to them might not be tailored to their tastes, to their body, to their genetics, to their goals, or to their stage of life.
Write a training regimen and a script that works for you. No two people are alike.
