Join this #ORGinAction in Support of World Refugee Day
There are NGOs and nonprofit organisations around the globe doing incredible things for the greater good, whether it’s building shelter for those in need, fundraising to enhance educational platforms or volunteering time through physical assistance. Today on World Refugee Day, we want to highlight one #ORGinAction that is advocating for people around the world — the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, also known as the UN Refugee Agency.
The UN Refugee Agency is a global organisation dedicated to saving lives, protecting rights and building a better future for refugees, forcibly displaced communities and stateless people. With a mission to ensure everyone has the right to seek asylum and find safe refuge, the UN Refugee Agency works around the clock in 128 countries to provide critical emergency assistance in the form of sanitation, shelter, clean water, food and healthcare.
The UN Refugee Agency will mark World Refugee Day by asking people around the world to support the #WithRefugees petition. The petition was launched in 2016 to help supporters around the world acknowledge those who are forced to flee and encourage governments to take action. As governments notice their communities signing this petition, the hope is that commitments will turn to action so that refugee children have access to education, refugee families have safe shelter, and refugees of all ages can learn skill sets that will allow them to make a positive contribution to their community.
At the time this post went live, 1,520,084 people worldwide have pledged support through the #WithRefugees petition … and that number continues to grow!
We commend this #ORGinAction for its support of 65.6 million refugees over the past two decades and serving as a conduit of the plight of refugees worldwide.
As we mark World Refugee Day 2017, consider signing the #WithRefugees petition to show your support for the UN Refugee Agency. You can visit the UN Refugee Agency at unhcr.org.
We’re always on the lookout for organisations who are using the .ORG domain as a way to share affinity around a common theme or connect with likeminded advocates or donors. Is there an #ORGinAction we should know about? Share them with us in a comment below.
