It’s that time of the year again... Families on vacations, grills sizzling & sadly, the World Cup cooling down. The days are long, hot and sunny — everyone is in a better mood.
For Caribbeans, July also means Crop Over time. If yuh donno what that is: Crop Over is a series of sweet, soca filled fetes (parties) leading up to Kadooment Day — the first Monday of August. Historically, Crop Over is the annual Bajan celebration signaling the end of the harvest/crop season (hence the name Crop Over). Today, it boils down to dancing, drinking & devoting yourself to your friends and family in Barbados.
Crop Over is a big deal. The costumes get bigger & sexier every year. The fetes (organized by various bands, similar to the samba schools in Brazil) draw ever increasing crowds. And the music? It’s that sweet soca that ties it all together.

Top track of the new season for me. Fire all the way. Every time I listen, it just lifts my mood effortlessly. Kinda obsessed with this one…
#2 — Morning Vibes (Breakfast In Bed)
Lil Rick killed it on this one. For sure this is the morning-after-a-heavy-night anthem of the 2018 season. But the track is so hot & has so much vibes that you could easily cue this up before, during and after the party done.
#3 — Manager
Okay, okay… I found this track pretty annoying the first time I heard it on the radio. But it is such an ear worm… and the lyrics so on point… that I admit it: I was wrong! And now I’m loving it. Besides, every season needs tracks for them gals to jiggle jiggle & bubba bubble it to.
#4— We Out Dey
Each Crop Over is filled with road anthems, and 2018 is no exception. Road anthems get the crowds pumped up and moving on the big trucks during Kadooment Day. Mikey shelled it down on this one, making it the top road anthem of 2018.
#5— Too Sweet
