“Don’t move the dog dish.”
At the end of a very short meeting, the owner decided “don’t move the dog dish” — opposed to moving-forward with our (client-name)2.0 project efforts. We had already spent about six months planning and designing what we saw as the perfect next step for the company, and as the lead Designer, I took this “flick of the pen” decision like a punch to the throat. After cooling-off we agreed that he was right (the client is usually sometimes always mostly right).
Why risk confusing the older member base out of the gate with huge swings?
Instead we opted for a segmented rollout with user testing. We coined the new plan “Project Inchworm”.
