You Are The Average Of The 5 People You Most Associate With !!
It’s been a quite a while that I wanted to express my beliefs on this topic. This is not something new to any of us, our parents have told us the same in many forms, phrases, and stories. All those stories and phrases came back to me when I listened to a small rant by Gary Vaynerchuk a couple of months back.
The Above was quoted by Motivational speaker Jim Rohn which relates to the law of averages, which is the theory that the result of any given situation will be the average of all outcomes.
It implies that, the people you spend the most time with shape who you are. They determine what conversations dominate your attention. They affect to which attitudes and behaviors you are regularly exposed. It affects our way of thinking, our self-esteem, and our decisions. Eventually, you start to think like they think and behave like they behave.
For instance, you can’t hang out with negative people and expect to have a positive life.
The fact is that humans are such uncreative creatures and we learn everything from the things we see.
That being said, You need people who will challenge you and make you better, thereby raising your average or helping you maintain a high one. You want to surround yourself with people who are exponentially better in a variety of ways. Understanding their influence on your performance is critical to your success. Not doing so may hinder your energy, vision and ultimate success. If someone is bringing down your average, you have to reduce his or her involvement in your life. True friendship always endures, and you’re simply focusing your valuable time most appropriately
The lesson here is to actively construct your social environment. Don’t let it depend on proximity or chance or on how it has always been, but consciously plan which opinions, attitudes, and life-philosophies you expose yourself to.
According to a survey, An Average Millenial spend more than 5 hours a day on their mobile phones and a combined 8 hours a day on electronic devices. This is more than the time some of us spend with our friends in a week. In a world where we spend more time connected to devices, it’s equally important to monitor who/what we associate with virtually.
It also means that you now have the power to connect with the likes of Gary Vaynerchuk, Neil Patel, Elon Musk, Tom Bilyeu, Reid Hoffman and so many more with just a few clicks on your smartphone. You can get associated with them virtually by joining social groups and communities that these individuals are a part of, by consuming the content that they produce or share. The content they share conveys their consciousness and knowledge. Being exposed to these materials is the same as interacting with these people.
You can also reduce the amount of negative content you consume virtually by auditing the pages, groups, and people you follow. You can just unfollow them or mute them. One thing that I love about these platforms is that they show more of what you consume and less of what you don’t. So it becomes equally important to reduce your intake of negative and unproductive content.
I started writing such pieces of content on personal growth, marketing and growth hacking to connect with others who resonate the same and If you have reached to this part of the content it means either you agree with the above-written content or you are kind enough to put in the effort to read this just for my sake. Whatever may it be, If you believe any part of the above-written content holds any truth and want to raise your average. I would be more than happy to connect with you and achieve this goal together.
