MyFitnessPal said I have lost 34 pounds, which is true according to the highest weight I have ever recorded on the app. July 5, 2014, so three years ago. If it takes three years to lose 34 pounds, you can see the problem with losing 100. My weight has gone up and down that whole time, losing some, gaining it back, losing it again, gaining it back. It’s a thing.

I decided to kind of start on my pre-op diet earlier than I need to. I say kind of because I’m not following it to the letter, but you don’t need to go on it till two weeks before your surgery date. I’m starting early to practice, get used to it, and not freak out when it’s the real thing.

The diet is all about protein and veggies, which is nice. Someone else I know who used a different medical practice had to only use food products purchased through the doctor’s office and it was all highly processed garbage like protein bars and instant protein noodle type stuff. The only “real” food was a strange selection of exotic jerky. I am happy to be eating “real” food, with the addition of the Unjury protein powder. I think eating unprocessed food is a much more healthy practice overall.

It’s three meals a day, and a protein drink after each meal as a snack (made with water which doesn’t taste nearly as good as made with skim milk). Breakfast and lunch are 2–3 ounces of protein (eggs, milk, yogurt, cheese, meat), dinner is 4–6 ounces of protein, 1–2 cups of non-starchy veggies, and a salad with 1 T of dressing. You get to have 4 “extras” in a day, which is a non-protein, non-veggie food between 80–100 calories. This is where your fruits and carbs come in. Half a cup of mashed potatoes, a slice of bread, that type of thing. Unlimited veggies, which is nice. I do like veggies. I like fruit more. The chocolate flavored Unjury is helping with my chocolate addiction.

If done properly, I will have between 1000–1500 calories and over 125 grams of protein. I’m within that range most of the time now. You would think that fat would be dripping off me as I walk, but I’m not getting nearly as much exercise now that I’m not in school. I need to go downstairs and use the equipment we have. I need to go for a walk outside when it’s not too hot. I haven’t done that. The plus side is my feet don’t hurt. They’re getting a break.

Two skirts are now too big for me where they drop down on my hips and I trip on them. They are in the garage sale pile. There are lots and lots of clothes waiting for me to become smaller so I will try not to grieve too much for the black tie dye skirt that I really liked. I see my neck starting to look a little slimmer, a little more definition in my jaw, and then every where else I see loose baggy jiggly fat and skin. This is not going to be pretty. But….it will feel WONDERFUL!

One. Two. Three. KICK!
