Fascinating. I’m Canadian and my bias is that North Americans just need to suck it up and learn how to say some names in other languages. It’s fun. I did take my husband’s name, and in the part of India he’s from, his last name was his father’s first name. So I’m now named after my father-in-law. But really, it’s all same-same to me since the other options were my dad’s name, or my mom’s dad’s name, or just pulling a Cher. Also: i am way jealous that you can read an ancient scroll by a Viking shaman like it was a newspaper :)
