As an avid user of both Uber’s and Black Cabs around London, I’ve always been at the heart of the debate about how they attempt to co-exist together. For me, I’ve always struggled to understand why the Black Cabs didn’t use a more positive approach (instead of complaining and doing demonstrations) and play to their strengths.
Being able to walk out of a busy station straight into one, or hailing one passing on the street, getting somewhere fast because of their use of bus lanes, and the fact you know you’ll get 5 people in and some luggage.
So it was a surprise, and genius, move today by Uber when I read Jo Betrams (UK Manager) blog post which covered all these topics about how they can all co-exist and play to each others strengths:

Alongside this, reducing the fees the cabs have to pay to use the service and on any credit card bills, and pushing for a way where they can flex their own prices and have more affordable vehicles.
Of course, there’s more politics and people’s perceptions to work through — but overall, I’m sure I’m not the only one who sees the need and desire to have both services playing alongside each other nicely which benefits them and us as customers.
