This is all very valid advice, and is something I think about.

Bridget’s right. The good (career-wise) years really fly by, and you realize, “Wow, I’m really glad I spent that boring two hours at the bank 35 years ago setting up that IRA and putting money into it ever since because I never foresaw (insert disaster here).”

Or … not. I’ve had friends try it both ways, but generally, the prepared way is better.
