Ocean opportunities ..

Well for those who have not read I wrote a bit of my story and how I ended up at Euro Python in previous posts ..

But let the subject of the post, Django Python Euro Girls!

For those who do not know I live in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. I told how I got in Euro Python in the post above.

A bit of previous editions …

Before Euro 2016 Python Django Girls in Euro Python, we had only two issues. It’s a bit scary since the Euro Python as PyCon US, is a major event involving people around the world. A Django Girls or Pyladies the event would have a high visibility events as well.

The goal of Django Girls not only be a workshop where we try to make contact with participants Django the best, but also promote the inclusion of gender. So a large conference is a great place to have diversity.

I’m not sure about the first edition but when I set out to organize the third edition, 2016, I received feedback not very good compared to the 2015 event, the second edition.

For those who do not know, July is the month of vacation in the city and Bilbao is a very small town. In the year 2015 the total number of participants was relatively small, + -14 people.

Difficulties

In the previous year the girls have managed more sponsorships, tickets Euro Python among many gifts.

This year unfortunately both Euro Python as some companies have reduced the budget for sponsorships. In the case of Euro Python, as far as I know they had fewer sponsors than the previous year. I needed to seek sponsorship for tickets, shirts, gifts, stickers.

Also I do not know anyone to help me in Europe with gifts, t-shirts, stickers. What made it more expensive, since in Brazil mainly in Rio de Janeiro things are very expensive.

I had to seek all means of dissemination, wanted a Girls Django with many girls!

And the main thing … I did not know the place I was not even there to organize. It was all organized remotely. Only one ocean away!

When all they see an ocean of barriers and distance, I saw an ocean of possibilities.

Well, with all the difficulties of the event, at the end we had a wonderful event. We had 30 participants in total.

Thanks to our sponsors we had gifts, tickets for all and draw various things. We had a nice feedback from the event, both the participants and the Euro Python.

Worth every effort to see all the smiles !!!

Better than it was to see that we had 100% of participants with complete tutorials and see that even with the full tutorial, each participant was curious and wanted to learn more.
