Two posts went viral

Explaining virality in two posts this week

The takeaway is that both posts — one about the Montgomerys spending 3 hours a day in public transportation, and the other about working three jobs to pay rent — were generic enough for anybody, whether in Boise or San Francisco, to click on it because the messaging expressed the hardships of the Montgomerys, who could have been a family in anybody’s hometown.

Each post is distributed across 350 Facebook pages of the BNN from a selected MakeRoom Facebook post each day.

Note that a post about the rental housing crisis in Passaic County received few clickthroughs because most national readers had no idea where Passaic is.

Explanation about Facebook posts

Our syndication app dlvr.it posted the message strangely by repeating the message (see below). The first part directs the user to the first link bit.ly/1LKgvXv. The second framed message directs the user to our dlvr.it link. Our dlvr.it metrics measured 1,180 clickthroughs on the Facebook post links.

The bit.ly/1LKgvXv link was clicked on 612 times, of which ~500–570 were on Facebook posts

The remaining 568 clickthroughs (=1,180–612) were on the dlvr.it link.
