But what is a dream team?

A team that works well together understand the strengths and weaknesses of each team member.

Yeah yeah, I know, we’ve all heard that one, but how does one find the right team members? Humans have been trying to work in teams and make great ideas come to life for ages, but it’s always a bit of a hit-or-miss story when it comes to finding the perfect team member.

Wait, before we start looking for the perfect team member, what is the definition of a perfect team member?

We talked to several experts, read up tons of books and articles by psychologists and here’s what we’ve figured out:

A perfect team member is somebody who is honest and straightforward, has good communication skills, knows how to handle responsibility and shares the work load equally and most importantly complements your skills.

So, we figured that the first step to helping you find a perfect mate for your project is obviously to understand your personality. Our short test to understand your personality is based on Myers-Briggs Type Indicator test, which uses Jung’s theory of personality types. Jung spoke of the dichotomy between the internal world (Introvert) and the external world (Extrovert), as well as individual preferences for the cognitive functions of Thinking, Feeling, Sensing and Intuition.

Briggs and Myer studied Jung’s theories and realised that there is a neat way to define personality traits in the following pairs:

  • Introversion (I) or Extroversion (E): Do you focus on your inner world (I) or the outer world (E)?
  • Intuition (N) or Sensing (S): Do you prioritise real information and physical data (S) or prefer analysing and interpreting information (N)?
  • Thinking (T) or Feeling (F): While taking decisions, are you logical and consistent (T) or base your decisions on first impressions and special circumstances (F)?
  • Judging (J) or Perceiving (P): While dealing with the outer world, are you someone who is planned and decisive (J) or someone who is open to new information and options (P)?

Your personality is decided based on your preference in each category. For example, you could be an INFJ person — introverted (I), intuitive (N), feeling(F) and judging (J). INFJ people are usually quiet, private people who like long conversations and discussions and care about others, wanting to help them. In a group of INFJ people, nobody will speak out of turn. Conversations are deep and the group will lean towards serious, philosophical and personal issues.
