“Certainly, pair programming is not a cultural fit for many individuals or companies”

I think you may be grossly oversimplifying things based on poor assumptions. The team I work with between Salt Lake and San Francisco does not fit the narrative of a non-diverse team. And, we certainly don’t use arbitrary culture fit criteria to exclude diverse candidates. We maintain active internal initiatives to promote diversity within our engineering team as one of our core values.

Our experience over 7 to 8 years with pair programming at the heart of our process has helped us build a very strong engineering culture with diverse team members across two offices. So, I don’t know that the criticisms you’ve raised are accurate at all.
