I am still waiting for the education revolution where schools blend in with the real world, collaborating within real environments on real projects and problem solving. To survive schools must adapt to provide opportunities for learning not from a rigid knowledge base but a set of portable, transferable, transformable, set of skills. Teachable moments need to be cleverly crafted, negotiated and capitalised upon to produce valid outcomes that have merit in and of themselves and can be built upon as learning experiences. Schools should captivate and inspire learning not capture and enslave. Why this has not happened in most places is because the “disruption” needed to drive this change has yet to gain enough momentum to run down the knowledge based curriculum but I do see the erosion slowly taking place at the edges. It may not happen next week, or even next year, but it will happen.
