Learn To Lead After Watching

All effort doesn’t require coaching or guidance when result of ability stems from cumulative training. Input leading to performance decline could indicate something many of us disregard; their athleticism was a whole lot better before being under someone else’s control. Deciders often refuse to believe the dismal outcome just might be related. Multi-tiered relays demonstrate impact of readiness on teams. Handoffs that aren’t precise lead to critical loss at expense of others. These members rarely prepare for only this stretch but are conditioned to independently succeed in other events as well. Great performance elsewhere makes them ideal candidates for joint competitive effort. Before succeeding physically they’ve already dedicated sufficient time to mental shifts that ultimately make room for desirable outcome. They learn by doing while making necessary adjustments accordingly. Mind matters first. Mastery of this practice benefits different areas similarly. Leadership analogy used to prompt awareness often helps those in charge understand most inner workings responsible for the success. When reflecting on these race events some can often see glimpses of themselves in shadows of athletes.

What Kind Of Leader Would You Like To Be?

  1. Trains With The Team. Win or lose they‘re engaged and adopted process leading to similarly aligned habit that allows success in team sports. Significant understanding connected to relatable experience.
  2. Baton Hider. Team search requires access to storage under coach’s control. Members must seek approvals from these controllers before being granted permission for temporary use of batons prior to each practice.
  3. Mental Saboteur. Unannounced regimen change right before success impacts morale. No one ever adapts to constant disruption that’s known to negatively affect focus. Behavior seems targeted. Athlete’s ability rage appears to cause persistent energy abuse. After practice teams under their leadership could be required to complete additional strenuous workouts.
  4. Punishers. Their way or the highway even though there’s no evidence of related success. Seems emotionally driven if outcome isn’t controllable.
  5. Victory Lover. Prioritized connecting only after team wins; otherwise, limited interaction or critical effort gossiper. May purposely undermine progress in front of non-team members.
  6. The Winner. Attempts to own every outcome and attached benefit. Could knowingly reward others for someone else’s effort because it’s believed to be their choice. Medal holding legacy; although unaccountable for result or domino affects primarily connected to their decisions. Can seem rude, insensitive and easily angered.
  7. Remote Controller: Unchallenged real estate occupancy resulting in their preferred environmental energy everywhere. Could be limited to physical space if access doesn’t compromise mental agility. Appears happy when people walk on eggshells in their presence.
  8. Manipulative. Sudden shifting. Misappropriates advantage. Willing to discredit or dishonor while retaining alleged positional power or perceived status. Limited understanding of specific team success requirement. Seems to use designed difficulty in support of being perceived as most suitable, within reach solution for the athletes.
  9. Problem Compounder. One experience with leadership decision to compound issues as training is enough lifetime exposure. These from afar proclaimed elites send mixed signals while seemingly offended by reflection of questionable action. If serving bonus problems to athletes, they may temporarily reign over team thinking. Athletic excellence could be issue if strategy is to avoid source of implanted problem.

Training with the best helps all of us adopt behaviors that might eventually contribute to winning like them. Team success is only possible when preparation includes more than event day performance and disconnected commands enhanced with cheerleading megaphones.
